Whether they do so for work or personal reasons, in today's world, people are connecting more and more via the Internet.

In Web Design, you will learn the workings of CSS, HTML, DHTML, XML and CMS, and how people use them to build websites. You will also have the opportunity to create a number of  your own web projects along the way.

All Web Design courses are worth five credits. Web Design 20/30 may be taken twice, but students will not earn 30-level credits until their second time taking the course.

Web Design 10

Prerequisite: None
Credits: 5

Students will learn the basics of visual website composition, the programming language of the internet (HTML), the industry-standard software for creating web pages. We will also explore the online development tools that can be used to create blogs and websites.

Web Design 20/30

Prerequisite: Web Design 10
Credits: 5

This is a project-based class that students may take twice, but they will not earn 30-level credits until they enrol for a second time. 

Students will explore the areas of web design that interest them most, gaining exposure to mobile web development, JavaScript, design, CSS, and database and server side scripting before choosing their own focus and direction from several different project options.

Students’ projects may include:

  • Using web design skills to make smartphone apps using Phone Gap
  • Designing web layouts and templates
  • Learning how to use content management systems (like that used to create the school monitor displays)
  • Entering the Skills Canada contest
  • Making websites for themselves or others
