Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony (UPDATED)
The Class of 2021 Graduation Ceremony will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Edmonton Expo Centre. Gates will open at 3pm, and Expo Centre staff will direct attendees to their parking stalls on a first-come, first-served basis. The ceremony itself will begin at 4pm.
As part of the ceremony, graduating students will proceed across the stage in their chosen graduation attire to receive a graduation cap & tassel, diploma cover and school-awarded certificate. Please note: this is not a cap-and-gown ceremony.
When choosing appropriate attire for this event, please account for the possibility of inclement weather and uneven outdoor terrain (i.e. bring an umbrella, wear suitable outdoor footwear, etc.).
This event will comply with the rules set out by the Edmonton Expo Centre, as well as all current Alberta Health Services protocols. This means:
- All attendees will remain in their vehicles at all times, exiting only when necessary (i.e. to use the washroom or go up on stage) and returning immediately after.
- Limos, party buses, RVs, tailgating, etc. will not be permitted.
- Graduates will be required to wear a mask when crossing the stage.
These protocols are subject to change based on new directives from Alberta Health Services.
Tickets for the Drive-In Graduation Ceremony will be available to purchase through the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Each ticket can be purchased for $70 (plus GST), and will admit one vehicle to the event. Space is limited, so attendees are advised to purchase their tickets at the first opportunity to ensure their admission to the event.
Ticket sales will be held in two rounds:
- Round 1 Sales: May 3-23 (sales close at midnight)
- Round 2 Sales: May 24-31 (sales close at midnight)
During Round 1 of ticket sales, all graduates will be given priority access to purchase a ticket to admit a single vehicle to the event. The option to purchase this ticket will appear on their PowerSchool account for the duration of Round 1. To claim their ticket and ensure their access to the event, graduates must pay for this ticket before the end of Round 1. At the conclusion of Round 1, all unclaimed tickets will no longer be reserved for graduates, and will be removed from their PowerSchool accounts and returned to the general pool of tickets to be sold in Round 2.
During Round 2 of ticket sales, remaining tickets will be made available to those who wish to bring a second vehicle to the event. Priority will be given to families of graduates who span more than one household (e.g. parents who have separated). Those wishing to request a ticket for an additional vehicle, as well as those who missed claiming a ticket in Round 1, may do so by completing and submitting the Request for an Additional Graduation Parking Spot form. If your request is accepted, the additional ticket will be added to your PowerSchool Parent Portal account. Potential extra parking stalls will be made available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please note: The Drive-In Graduation Ceremony will also be live-streamed for those unable to attend the event in person. Further details will be shared at a later date.
Payment for tickets can be made online through the PowerSchool Parent Portal (MCHS students only), or at Memorial’s Finance office by credit card, debit, cash or cheque (made payable to “The Parkland School Division”).
In order to attend the Graduation Ceremony, all graduates are required to pay the Graduation Fee. This fee must be paid prior to or at the same time as any ceremony tickets being purchased. All ticket and graduation fee payments must be made by the May 31 deadline.
Ticket Pickup & Form Signing
Tickets will be available for pickup at Memorial Composite High School on June 2 & 3 from 4-7pm. In keeping with the requirements of Parkland School Division’s insurance coverage, graduates and their parents/guardians will also be required to sign a consent form at this time to indicate that the graduate has permission to attend Memorial’s Virtual / Drive-In Graduation Ceremony.
In addition to the Parkland School Division consent form, students and parents are also asked to sign a release form for the Edmonton Expo Centre, which is in the process of collaborating with Baat Cheet Films to create a video to showcase how their venue has pivoted throughout the pandemic. The purpose of the video will be to show their impact to the community, the benefit to Edmontonians and the work of their team. This video will be shared on the Expo Centre's social media channels later this year. As part of their video, they will include some clips of our drive-in graduation ceremony, with wide-set shots of the drive-in area and walks across the stage. The release form will give them permission to use this footage featuring our graduates in their promotional material. Please note - this signed release is between Baat Cheet Films and the student and/or parent/guardian, not Parkland School Division.
Students without signed consent & release forms will not be eligible to attend the event. For this reason, please ensure that the graduate and their parent/guardian are both present to pick up their ceremony ticket(s) and sign the forms. Alternately, students and parents/guardians may print out and sign the forms prior to picking up their tickets by following the links below:
