Forensic Studies

Prerequisite or Co-requisite: Science 10 OR Science 14
Credits: 6

Forensics studies is a combination of Forensics 25 and Forensics 35.  This course is the application of medical or other sciences to police investigations of crimes. Because it includes many aspects of science, (e.g. Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, Anatomy, Genetics, etc.) it would be very difficult to cover all aspects of forensic science in one course. This course will focus on a few of the major areas where forensic science is routinely used in crime investigations.

Topics studies include:

  • The Crime Scene
  • Forensic Entomology
  • Forensic Anthropology
  • Blood and Body Fluids
  • Weapons (Ballistics)
  • Fire and Explosives Document
  • Fiber, Soil and Hair Analysis
  • Fingerprints
  • DNA Fingerprints

This course will also include a large laboratory component.

Please Note: Forensic Studies credits CANNOT be applied towards the minimum 10 credits in Science required to earn an Alberta High School Diploma.
